Tampa Bay Rays at Philadelphia Phillies World Series Game 3 Pick: The good news for Saturday’s World Series Game 3 is the weather should cooperate. The weatherman says partly cloudy by Saturday night. The bad news for Tampa Bay is it’s going to get colder. The temperature for game time is supposed to drop to 47 degrees.
The Phillies will try to take advantage of its home field advantage at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia with hopes of getting a win and breaking the 1-1 deadlock. Getting the start for Philadelphia will be 45 year old veteran lefthander Jamie Moyer who will be getting his first career World Series start. Countering for Tampa Bay will be righthander Matt Garza. There is some concern regarding Moyer who is credited with the only two losses the Phillies have had in the post season. In the NLCS Game 3 against the Dodgers, Moyer endured his worst outing of 2008 allowing six runs in 1 1/3 innings. ALCS MVP Garza was dominant posting a 1.38 ERA in two starts. In Game 3 at Fenway Park on Oct. 13, allowed only one run over six-plus innings of the Rays' 9-1 victory. In the pennant-clinching victory Sunday night, Garza again allowed just one run and two hits over seven dazzling innings of work. The 24-year-old right-hander has a mid-90s fastball that sinks, a curve, a slider and a changeup. Oddsmakers at online sportsbook Bodog (Bodoglife.com) currently have the Rays listed as 120-money line favorites versus the Phillies, while the game's total is sitting at 9. Phillies backers are getting +110 money line juice as a home underdog. The Rays evened the World Series at a game apiece with a 4-2 win over the Phillies in Game 2 last time out, as -175 favorites. That game's six runs went UNDER the posted over/under (8.5). B.J. Upton had two hits and one RBI for the Rays. James Shields tossed 5 2-3 scoreless innings to post the victory. Eric Bruntlett homered in the loss for the Phillies, who were +160 underdogs. Brett Myers gave up all four runs over seven innings in the loss.
