Yankees vs Phillies Game 3 World Series Predictions 2009: The Yankees and Phillies return to action tonight as the 2009 World Series descends upon the City of Brotherly Love. The Fall Classic is currently knotted up at 1-1, but all of that will change this evening when the action gets started at 7:57pm ET at Citizens Bank Park (FOX). The offensive production, however, was still not there for New York as the team had difficulty stringing hits together. The Yankees will look to take a 2-1 series lead this evening with veteran lefty Andy Pettitte on the mound. Tonight's start will be the 39th playoff start for the Louisiana native, so he is no stranger to October pressure. New York is 23-15 in Pettitte's previous 38 post-season outings. The 37 year old's last appearance came in Game 6 of the ALCS when he worked 6.1 innings, giving up one earned run and striking out six to help eliminate the Angels. In three 2009 playoff starts Pettitte has worked a total of 18.3 innings, allowing 17 hits, five earned runs (2.45), and three walks while striking out 15.

Countering Pettitte for the Phillies will be 25 year old southpaw Cole Hamels. Hamels, who was a playoff hero for Philadelphia in last year's World Series run, has been anything but that this season. He has made three starts in the 2009 playoffs (Phillies 2-1) and the numbers have been less than spectacular. The San Diego native has pitched 14.2 innings in those appearances, giving up 20 hits and 11 earned runs for a 6.97 ERA. He is hoping for better results tonight.

"It's been a growing process," Hamels said. "It's just coming back and delivering, and I still have an opportunity to help this team out and win some big games."

Game 3 World Series Predictions 2009 Betting Trend: The Phillies are 1-9 straight up in their last 10 games as a home dog versus a left hander with a moneyline spread between 100 and 120 and total between 8.5 and 9. New York is 8-2 straight up in the same situation, only as a road favorite.
