Yankees vs Phillies Game 4 World Series Predictions 2009: The Yankees will look to take a decisive three game lead in the World Series tonight when they take on the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. New York went up 2-1 last night, beating Philadelphia 8-5 in a pivotal game three. This evening's game is scheduled to get underway at 8:20pm ET on FOX. Game 4 World Series Predictions 2009 at online bookmaker BetUS.com have the Yanks listed as a -170 moneyline favorite.
The Yankees finally found their regular season bats last night and they used them to smash out eight hits, three of which were home runs, and eight runs. The outburst was the second most runs that New York has posted in a 2009 playoff game, the first being a 10 run barrage in game five against the Angels. The primary victim of the Yankees offensive aggression? Phillies lefty Cole Hamels. Hamels downward slide continued as he gave up five hits and five earned runs over 4.1 innings.
Phillies skipper Charlie Manual will call on veteran right-hander Joe Blanton to quiet New York's bats this evening. Given Blanton's recent performance, that seems like an iffy possibility at best. The 28 year old hurler has made three appearances this post-season, giving up nine hits and five earned runs in 9.2 innings of work. However, the Nashville native was nails for the Phillies in last year's playoffs. Blanton made three starts in the 2008 post-season; Philadelphia went 3-0 in those outings and Blanton garnered a miniscule 2.65 ERA over 17 innings pitched.
"It's a big game, but it's another game," Blanton said. "And I think you draw from last year, just the fact that you've been there before, you've been in that environment, you've been in that atmosphere…you can just kind of draw back and keep your emotions in check."
Unfortunately for Blanton, he will be throwing opposite C.C. Sabathia. Sabathia has been nothing short of superb during these playoffs. In four 2009 post-season starts (NYY 3-1), the big lefty has allowed just 21 hits and five earned runs over 29.2 innings for a 1.32 ERA. He has also walked six while striking out 26. Sabathia will be working on three days rest after getting the start in game one, but for his career, the 29 year old has a 5-3 record and 3.16 ERA on short rest.
Game 4 World Series Predictions 2009 Betting Trend: The Yankees are 5-1 straight up this season playing as a road favorite coming off of back-to-back wins. Average margin of victory? 6.2 runs per game.
