Yankees vs Phillies Game 5 World Series Predictions 2009: New York will go for the World Series win tonight in Philadelphia after taking a 3-1 lead yesterday with a 7-4 win at Citizens Bank Park. New York took the Phillies to the brink of elimination last night, scoring a 7-4 victory in front of a raucous Philadelphia crowd. The Phillies trailed 4-3 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning but tied the game up with a Pedro Feliz homer to left. The Yankees, however, scored three runs in the top of the ninth after Jorge Posada followed up an Alex Rodriguez double with a two RBI single to center field. Mariano Rivera took care of the rest, retiring the Phillies in order in the bottom of the inning to get his second save of the series.

Charlie Manual will try to stave off a series exit by sending staff ace Cliff Lee to the hill this evening. Tonight will mark the 31 year old's fifth start this post-season; to say the former Cy Young winner has been spectacular in his previous four outings (Philly 4-0) would be an understatement. Lee, including his complete game performance against the Yanks in a 6-1 Game 1 win, has given up just 20 hits and two earned runs over 33.1 innings for a 0.54 ERA. He has walked three and struck out 30, making him, without question, the most dominating pitcher of these playoffs.

New York will go for its 27th World Series championship with right-hander A.J. Burnett on the mound. Burnett, like C.C. Sabathia last night, will be working on short rest. The 32 year old pitched in New York's 3-1 Game 3 win on October 29th. That performance happened to be Burnett's best of the playoffs as he gave up four hits and one earned run over seven innings (two walks, nine strikeouts). The Arkansas native has been great in four previous short rest starts, going 4-0 with a 2.33 ERA in those appearances.  

Game 5 World Series Predictions 2009 Betting Trend: The Under is 8-2 in Cliff Lee's last 10 starts as a home favorite with a total between 8.5 and 9.
