Barry Bonds Indicted in Steroid Case

by Alexander Banks on Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Barry Bonds Indicted Related to Steriods CaseAfter a four year investigation into steroid use among professional athletes and flying allegations of Barry Bonds using steroids the proverbial “stuff” finally hit the fan today as the homerun king of baseball was indicted and charged with four counts of perjury and one of obstruction of justice. If convicted, he could be sentenced to a maximum of 30 years in prison.

Bonds who continues to deny that he took any type of performance enhancing drugs during his career will now have to not only defend himself to stay out of prison but attempt to keep the honor of one of the most coveted records in MLB history.  Up to this point there were questions surrounding Bonds and the record but this indictment could finally be the nail in the coffin.

So what exactly is this indictment about and what specifically are they charging Bonds with doing?

Prosecutors had promised Bonds they wouldn't charge him with any drug-related counts if he testified truthfully but apparently they had enough to believe talking to him was a waste of time. Whether or not that’s true the legal process will eventually uncover the facts.  But let’s take a look at some of the truths and/or lies with today’s developments.

Truth or Lie

1.     Investigators seized a so-called "doping calendar" labeled "BB" during a raid of supposed Bonds trainer’s house.  When Bonds was shown the calendar he just stated that Anderson could know other BBs – Truth or Lie #1

2.     Bonds was asked directly if his trainer had supplied him with steroids.  His response was "Not that I know of. – Truth or Lie #2

3.     Bond’s denied taking steroids again when he was shown a document that revealed a positive test result for a player named “BB” – Truth or Lie #3

4.     Bonds ironically said at the end of the 2003 season his trainer had rubbed some cream on his arm that was just something to help him recover from injury. – Truth or Lie #4 .

Our great country has a legal system that is based on the presumption of innocence so it behooves us to not pass judgment.    But I also have a saying:  If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it’s a duck!  You draw your on conclusions.
