Josh Beckett (14-5, 3.31) will try to extend his MLB best winning record to 15 today when the Boston Red Sox face rookie Garrett Olson (1-0, 3.86 ERA) and the Baltimore Orioles in a late Saturday afternoon game at Camden Yards.
Beckett is 1-1 with a 4.04 ERA in three starts against the Orioles this season. He has struggled in recent starts going 1-2 over his last three starts with the lone win against Seattle last Sunday.
Olson, who has never faced the Red Sox, was re-called from AAA Norfolk on Friday and is expected to join the Orioles starting rotation to finish out the season. The 23 year old Left Hander has pitched in two games against the White Sox earlier this season getting one win on July 12.
Boston lost game one of the three game series on Friday when recently acquired reliever Eric Gagne blew a save opportunity and a 5-1 Red Sox lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. Entering the game with a 5-1 lead in the eighth, Gagne gave up four runs forcing a tie. Hideki Okajima gave up a walk-off run in the ninth securing a Baltimore victory. Okajima was credited with the loss while Jim Hoey got his first win for Baltimore. The Orioles posted the win as +100 underdogs while Boston was favored -120. The total (8.0) cashed for the OVER with 11 runs across.
Oddsmakers at SBG Global sportsbook have posted -185 money line odds favoring Boston with a -120 nod on the run line (-1.5). As home underdogs, the Orioles are getting +165 juice on the ml and are getting an EVEN (+1.5) on the run line. The total is holding at 9.5 with an OVER wager getting EVEN odds while the UNDER price is -120.
