Mets with slim division lead, head to Pittsburgh for three game set versus PiratesThe New York Mets (65-52) travel to Pittsburgh to begin a three game series against the Pirates (49-67) at PNC Park on Tuesday. RHP Orlando Hernandez (7-4, 3.05 ERA), also known as “El Duque” will toe the rubber for New York while RHP Ian Snell (7-10, 3.87 ERA will pitch for the Pirates. The Mets have been successful in the last six games El Duque started since the All-Star game. While not getting credited with all the decisions he has picked up three wins to no losses over that span. The Pirates have not been as lucky in games started by Snell since the break losing all six games the 25 year old has started while being credited with five of the losing decisions. 

The Eastern Division leading Mets begin a six-game road trip on the heels of losing 4-of-6 games in a home stand with the Braves and Marlins. Pittsburgh on the other hand has won 5-of-8, including a three game road sweep of the Giants in San Francisco. 

The Mets have not fared well at PNC Park having lost 7-of-8 contests there including being swept in a three game series last year. However, this season the Mets own the leagues best record (21-9) against NL Central opponents.

Oddsmakers at Bodog.com currently have the Mets listed as -140-moneyline favorites versus the Pirates, while the game's total is sitting at 8½.The Mets defeated Florida 10-4 as a -230 favorite last time out. The 14 runs scored went OVER the posted over/under total (9.5). The Mets are installed as the series -165 favorites to win the three game set while the Pirates are getting + 135 juice as a home underdog.

 

Moises Alou hit a pair of home runs and had four RBI for New York, while Carlos Delgado hit a two-run home run in the win.

Ryan Klesko belted a grand slam home run on Monday, as the Giants defeated the Pirates 10-3 at PNC Park to earn a split of their double-header. The Giants won the game as -115 favorites, while the 13 runs made it OVER the posted over/under (8.5).

Josh Phelps was 2-for-4 with a solo home run for the Pirates, while Shane Youman gave up five runs off four hits in the loss.
