Davis is pitching much better for Arizona of late. He gave up three runs on five hits in 6 2/3 innings Monday. He also struck out a season-high eight batters and walked only two. Davis was terrible in June but has bounced back in July to go 2-1 with a 3.51 ERA.

The Braves are -132 favorites with a total of 9 Under (-120) at SBG Global .
reports that early betting has the gambling public taking the favored Braves on the road. The Diamondbacks will try and continue their strong play of late. They will have to do it with out pitcher Randy Johnson who will not pitch again this season. He will have surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back next Friday. Arizona manager Bob Melvin said that Johnson intends to pitch again in 2008. Johnson had a similar surgery performed last October and said at that time he was told there was a 5 percent chance that he could herniate the disc again. Johnson was acquired by the D-backs from the Yankees in January and agreed to a two-year contract that runs through 2008. Johnson was 4-3 with a 3.81 ERA in 10 starts for the D-backs this year.

The Braves and Diamondbacks are both in the playoff chase and Arizona is not underestimating the Braves in this series. "The Braves are always good," Melvin said. "Whether or not they do it with their veterans or younger guys they mix in with pitching. Last year was kind of against the grain for them, but that's a team you always know is going to be there. Have that aura about them, being a winning organization from [GM John] Schuerholz to [manager Bobby] Cox to the Jones boys and the whole bit. When the Braves are coming in and you see them on your schedule they get your attention."
