2008 NBA Championship Odds

2008 NBA Championship OddsNBA Picks Expert Jimmy Boyd lists the odds to win an NBA Championship offered at SportsBetting.com below and talks about some of the teams which appear to have the best chance to give you NBA futures bettors a better idea of who to pick.  While the Western Conference has dominated the top spots over the past few seasons, it appears the tables have turned as now the Boston Celtics and the Detroit Pistons of the Eastern Conference are the favorites to win it all.

The Boston Celtics are the favorites to win the 2007-08 NBA championship with 3 to 2 odds.  The additions of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to combine with All-Star Paul Pierce have made the Celtics the best team in the league in the early going.  If these guys can stay healthy it’s going to be tough for any team to defeat them in a seven game series.  But the Celtics have not yet played Dallas or the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs yet.  How they do against those Western Conference powerhouses may give us a better indication if we’re ready to believe they can win it all.

The Detroit Pistons are leading the Eastern Conference Central Division with a 28-10 record and some value at 5 to 1 odds at SportsBetting.com.  They have split with the Celtics in two games this season so we could expect a series between these two teams to be a war.  The Pistons also have a huge amount of experience on their side as they have been the elite team in the East much of this decade with the same nucleus of players.

The Mavs are the favorite of oddsmakers out of the Western Conference and are listed at 7 to 1 odds to win the 2008 NBA Championship.  This is a team which blew an NBA Finals Championship two years ago and then was knocked out in the first round last season after holding the best record in the NBA regular season.  Dallas got off to a rough start this season, but has since settled in.  The Mavs are 26-12 to date this season and they definitely have the motivational factor on their side.

The Phoenix Suns at 6 to 1 odds and the San Antonio Spurs at 4 to 1 odds round out the top five.  San Antonio is actually leading the Southwest Division by percentage points over Dallas, but with oddsmakers have taken into consideration just how difficult it is to repeat.  The Spurs have won 4 titles in the last 8 seasons but have not won any back-to-back.  Off to a 26-11 start, the Suns are more than likely destined for another Pacific Division title, but we don’t think they have a real shot at a championship because they aren’t strong enough defensively.  Time may be running out for Phoenix.

Other teams to note are the LA Lakers, Denver Nuggets, Utah Jazz, and Orlando Magic.  The Lakers are off to the best start out of these teams, which is a big surprise, but we feel playoff inexperience will ultimately fail them, despite how well Kobe plays.
