The Orlando Magic hope to end their NBA Picks homestand on a positive note tonight when the Denver Nuggets come for a visit. The Magic have lost two in a row and three of their first four games of this five game home stand. Strangely enough although Orlando is 32-21 SU overall they have really struggled on their home floor going only 11-10 SU this season. It certainly hasn’t been because of their offense as they are averaging 100.8 points per game. It’s their defense that oddly enough drops off when they are at home as they give up 99.9 per game versus a slightly better 98.5 when they are on the road. This disparity in performance at home seemed to finally get to Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy, who called out All-Star center Dwight Howard after he failed to block a shot, saying Howard is more concerned with his offense. There might be something to Van Gundy’s concern as the Magic are 22-2 when Howard blocks at least three shots, and 21-4 when they allow less than 100 points. Orlando seems to have the publics eye however as WagerWeb.com has them listed as a -5.5 point home favorite.
All that might be good talk but the Denver Nuggets come into this NBA Picks game winners of three in a row and six of their last seven overall and have surpassed the 100 point mark in each of those games. Last night they had to go to overtime however to finally put away the Miami Heat 114-133. In last night’s game J.R. Smith hit a career-best eight 3-pointers and Anthony scored 22 points with 11 rebounds . After missing action with a sprained ankle Anthony has been unstoppable as he is averaging 30 points and 9.3 rebounds in his last six games since returning. However, things might night be in their favor tonight even with the Magic’s struggles at home as it will be the Nuggets second game in as many nights (an overtime game to boot) and they haven’t won in Orlando since March 10, 1992. The Nuggets play little defense either as they give up a whopping 107.9 points per game on the road allowing their opponents to shoot 46.3% from the field.
Denver not only comes into this game red hot but they have excelled versus inter-conference opponents going 14-6 ATS versus non-conference opponents this season. Orlando doesn't take to losing twice to the same opponent all that well as they are 12-4 revenging a loss where they gave up 100 or more points this season.
