In of the less anticipated NBA Picks matchup prior to the All Star break, the reeling Miami Heat travel to the “Windy City” to take on the Chicago Bulls. The Heat will be trying to avoid their ninth consecutive loss tonight where they are only 4-21 SU on the road. Unfortunately for the Heat they were within a whisker of ending their losing streak when All-Star Dwyane Wade's jumper fell short in Tuesday's 114-113 overtime loss to the Denver Nuggets. If there is one thing going right for the Heat it appears that newly acquired forward Shawn Marion, who came over from Phoenix as part of a three-man trade for Shaquille O'Neal last week, has lived up to expectations in both games for the Miami. Marion is averaging 19.0 points and 16.0 rebounds since joining Miami. This will be the second meeting between these two clubs this season. In the first meeting, Ben Gordon scored 24 points to lead four others in double figures as Chicago crushed Miami 126-96 back in January. All that seems to not impress the bettors as Bodog.com has the Heat listed as a +2 point underdog.
The Bulls are hoping that the second half of NBA Picks will be better for them as the first half has had them have to deal with a multitude of injuries. The Bulls have their own losing streak having lost their last two games and 5 of their last 8 overall. Chicago lost to New Orleans back on Tuesday with both Gordon (wrist) and Luol Deng (left Achilles) out due to various injuries. Chicago guard Kirk Hinrich has missed games due to injuries as well but did play versus New Orleans and recognized that the Bulls need to pick it up late in the game when he was quoted "Obviously we would like to come out with a better effort in the third, we were right there in the fourth quarter and we kind of got our butts kick in the fourth quarter." If it’s one consolation for the Bulls it’s the fact that some backups are getting some good playing time and it appears that second year swingman Thabo Sefolosha is taking advantage as he is averaging 12.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists as a starter.
Certainly bettors will be hard pressed to make the Miami Heat their NBA Picks selection tonight but consider the fact that the Bulls are 7-17 ATS after playing 2 consecutive games as an underdog over the last 2 seasons and only 21-30 ATS (-12.0 Units) in all games this season.
