NBA Picks: Detroit Pistons vs Utah Jazz

by Alexander Banks on Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

The Detroit Pistons continue their four game NBA Picks West Coast road trip when they play game three in Utah versus the Jazz.  Thus far on the road trip the Pistons have been playing well scoring victories over both Denver and Phoenix.  The current win streaks have them closing in on the Boston Celtics for the top spot in the East with a 42-15 SU mark overall.  Detroit will be looking to exact revenge tonight as they lost their previous matchup this year 103-93 but the Pistons were without the services of Rasheed Wallace in that one who was out with a sore knee.  Detroit will be playing a potent offense tonight so they will need their staunch defense to continue their tough play where they average only 93.1 points per game against them on the road.  In the first game however they allowed the Jazz to shoot 52% from the floor.  Detroit also hasn’t done well in Utah losing their last four trips to visit the Jazz and are only 10-27 SU since 1974-75.  It appears that this one might be a barn burner though as BetOnline.com has the Pistons listed as a small -1 point road underdog.

The Utah Jazz come into this one trying to get back on track after a horrible performance that saw them lose and NBA Picks contest versus the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves.  Home cooking could be just what the doctor order for the Jazz as they haven't lost at home in 14 games.  Their last loss was against the Boston Celtics 104-98 way back on December 29.   The Pistons will have to contain Carlos Boozer if they expect to pull out the victory as he racked up 36 points and 11 rebounds in their first meeting.  The Jazz bring into this game a potent offense that is averaging 107.1 points per game at home while shooting the lights out at 50.6% from the floor.  Their defense surprisingly has been decent at home giving up 94.7 per game.  Utah will certainly be tough to beat at home sporting a league best 24-3 SU mark.

Detroit backers should be excited about this matchup as the Pistons are 21-9 ATS as a road underdog of 6 points or less over the last 2 seasons and 13-2 ATS after successfully covering the spread in 3 or more consecutive games this season.
