The Los Angeles Lakers look to continue their post-All Star break surge this afternoon as they take on the Thunder in the Sooner State. Today's Western Conference clash, a rematch of last year's first round playoff series, is scheduled for a 2:30pm ET tip at the Oklahoma City Arena; it will be televised live on ABC. The latest NBA Point Spreads have the Lakers listed as a slight -1.5 against the spread road favorite and the Over/Under set at 201.
The Lakers nose dived before the All Star respite, losing three straight heading into the weekend's festivites, but
apparently the short breather did them some good. Phil Jackson's squad is 3-0 this side of the break with wins over the Hawks, Trail Blazers, and Clippers.
Los Angeles last win came on Friday night when it dispatched its city rival 108-95 at the STAPLES Center. The Lakers defense limited the Clippers to 37.8 percent field goal shooting and their offense knocked downs 43-of-85 from the floor, including 8-of-16 from long range.
Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol led the way for Los Angeles, Bryant scoring a team high 24 points while Gasol dropped in 22. Andrew Bynum also played a pivotal role, posting a 16 point, 11 rebound double double.
The Lakers, which have won three in a row over the Thunder, now stand at 41-19 on the season; they are 20-11 on the road and 23-11 in conference action.
Oklahoma City lost its second straight game on Friday, falling 111-88 to the Magic in Orlando. The Thunder, which saw their record drop to 36-21 with the loss, shot a miserable 33.3 percent in the setback.
Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook combined for 41 points against the Magic, but they hit just 14 of their 41 field goal attempts.
Oklahoma City, which owns a 3.5 game lead over second place Portland in the Northwest standings, is 20-8 as a host this season. The Thunder are also 3-1 in their last four games against the Lakers at the Oklahoma City Arena.
