NBA Picks: Los Angeles Lakers vs Portland Trail Blazers

by Alexander Banks on Friday, February 29th, 2008

The Los Angeles Lakers one struggling are red hot as they close out their February of NBA Picks when they visit the Portland Trail Blazers.   The Lakers bring with them an impressive 10 game winning streak while they only have one loss in their last 14 overall.  What is even more impressive is that all of these wins this month have come with the Lakers only playing three games at home during the month.  Their most recent win was a demolishing of the Miami Heat last night 106-88.  Tonight will be the second meeting between these two teams in only their last three games.  Earlier this week the Lakers beat the Trail Blazers 96-83 as a 15.5 point favorite.  In that game the Trail Blazers were able to keep the Lakers under the 100 point mark for only the second time in their last 14 games.  There is no doubt that  Portland will have an uphill battle tonight and it shows in the number as WagerWeb.com has the Lakers listed as a solid -8 point road favorite.

Unfortunately for the Portland Trail Blazers they will be facing the Lakers struggling getting an NBA Picks win as they are only 2-8 SU in their last 10 games overall.  One of those wins game on Wednesday that snapped a three game losing streak, over the LA Clippers 82-80.  The Trail Blazers were even lucky to win the game as Clippers’ Corey Maggette missed two chances to win the game.  Portland has been tough to beat at home this season however as they a stellar 22-8 SU this season outscoring their opponents by over 4 points per game.  Portland also has had success at home with facing the Lakers posting in impressive 3-0 SU mark over the last three seasons.  They will also need to shoot a lot better than they did in their first matchup if they expect to win this game as they were a horrible 36.1% from the floor.  Their defense that allows their opponents to only shoot 43.7% from the floor will also have to perform better than the previous contest as they allowed the Lakers to shoot 47.4% from the field.

Portland certainly will be looking to continue their dominance of the Lakers at the Rose Garden as they have won thei last four in a row versus Los Angeles and are 20-7 ATS in their last 27 games versus a team with a winning SU record.  But the Lakers certainly won’t go easily as they will be looking for their first 11 game winning streak since 2004 and are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games as a favorite of 5.0-10.5.
