NBA Picks: San Anonio Spurs vs Milwaukee Bucks

by Alexander Banks on Saturday, March 1st, 2008

The San Antonio Spurs look to extend their season high seven game NBA Picks winning streak when they visit the Milwaukee Bucks.  Unlike some of their counterparts in the Western Conference the Spurs decided to stay out of the high priced race for time players and all they have done is continue to win.  San Antonio comes in at 39-17 SU only signing veteran point guard Damon Stoudamire while also making a deal for forward Kurt Thomas, but sat and watched as Pau Gasol, Jason Kidd and Shaquille O'Neal were traded to three of San Antonio's biggest rivals.  The Spurs are coming off a 97-94 home victory Thursday against Dallas. Tim Duncan continues the be the heart and soul of the team as he capped off a month during which he'd averaged 21.8 points and 13.0 rebounds with his best game yet versus the Mavericks, totaling 31 points and 15 rebounds.   The Bucks haven’t been able to contain Duncan who is averaging 23.2 points and 12.5 rebounds lifetime against Milwaukee.  That certainly has in impact on the Odds Makers as Bodog.com has the Spurs listed as -6 point road favorites.

The Milwaukee Bucks come into tonight’s NBA Picks contest sporting only a 22-36 SU mark but San Antonio is by no means a lock as the Bucks have looked impressive at home beating Detroit, Denver and Cleveland in their last three home games and are a respectable 16-11 SU at the Bradley Center.  Unfortunately for the Bucks they are a horrible 6-25 SU on the road which more than likely is going to keep them out of a playoff spot.  The Bucks defense has been challenged to say the least as they have allowed more than 100 points in four straight games.  Milwaukee will have to rely on Andrew Bogut under the glass who is averaging 16.7 points and 14.3 rebounds in his last three games.  Fortunately for the Buck in five career games against Duncan, Bogut has held his own, averaging 13.8 points and 9.0 boards.

Certainly one would have to give the nod to the Defending Champion San Antonio Spurs in tonight’s NBA Picks contest considering that not only do they lead the Western Conference but they are 21-6 ATS in road games off a close home win by 3 points or less since 1996.  If there is hope for the Milwaukee backers it’s the fact that the Bucks have played tough at home and the Spurs are only 8-18 ATS in road games after 3 or more consecutive wins over the last 2 seasons.
