The slumping Heat do not have time to lick their wounds from last night's divisional loss as they face the league's best team, the San Antonio Spurs, tonight in the Alamo City. This evening's East versus West clash, which will be broadcast live on ESPN, is scheduled to tip off at 9:30pm ET at the AT&T Center. NBA Spreads have the Spurs listed as a -2.5 against the spread home favorite and the Over/Under set at 195.5.
Miami lost for the third time in its last four games last night as the Orlando Magic scored a huge come from behind win at
the AmericanAirlines Arena. The Magic, which trailed by as many as 24 points in the game, used a 40-9 second half run to drop the Heat 99-96.
LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh all scored in double figures in the loss, James leading the way with 29 points, but no other Heat played topped nine points. The real problem, though, proved to be Miami's perimeter defense. Orlando's plethora of long range bombers repeatedly found open looks from beyond the arc, and they buried 16 of their 29 three point attempts as a result.
Miami, despite the frustrating setback, remains the two seed in the Eastern Conference, but their lead over the third place Bulls now stands at one game.
San Antonio, which owns a 28-2 record at the AT&T Center, rebounded from a 93-109 road loss at Memphis with a 109-99 win at Cleveland on Wednesday night. The Spurs win over the Cavaliers brought their record to 50-11 on the season and kept the surging Mavericks, winners of seven in a row, 5.5 games back in the race for the Southwest title.
San Antonio, which has played its last two games without point guard Tony Parker (out two to four weeks with a strained calf muscle), had six players score in double figures against Cleveland. George Hill, who filled Parker's spot in the starting lineup, led the team with 22 points. Forward DeJuan Blair posted his first double double (14 points, 10 rebounds) since Valentine's Day to help his team dispose of the woeful Cavaliers.
The Spurs, which have won five of their last six games against the Heat, have won 22 straight homes games against Miami.
