Just one playoff spot remains open in the Western Conference, but the Grizzlies, which currently hold the last position, can wrap it up this evening with a win over the visiting Sacramento Kings. Tonight's game is scheduled for an 8:00pm ET tip at the FedEX Forum in Memphis. The latest NBA Point Spreads have the Grizzlies listed as a -500 moneyline favorite (-9.5 against the spread) and the Over/Under set at 204.
The Grizzlies, who have a 3.5 game lead over the ninth place Rockets in the Western Conference standings, are probably
not sweating their postseason spot with just four games to go; however, they are, no doubt, anxious, to officially seal the deal.
Memphis has certainly played with some fire down the stretch, despite an unexpected 81-82 home loss to Los Angeles (Clippers) on Tuesday night. The Grizzlies, now 44-34, have won seven of their last nine games, their only setbacks coming against the Bulls and the aforementioned Clippers.
Memphis defense has dominated during its run, limiting its opposition to an average of 88.4 points per game. The Spurs, who fell 111-104 to Mike Conley and company on March 27th, are the only Grizzlies opponent to reach the century during their 7-2 surge.
Sacramento, which has lost four of its last five against Memphis by an average of 13.8 points per game, enters this evening's contest fresh off a 92-124 loss at San Antonio. The setback dropped the Kings record to 23-55 overall, but it represented just their third loss in the last nine games.
Sacramento, amazingly, has been better on the road this season, posting a 12-27 record outside the Power Balance Pavilion. The Kings will have their hands full improving those numbers this evening, though, with Memphis tallying an impressive 28-11 record at home.
