The San Antonio Spurs are dying for a road win and they’ll get their chance tonight, Monday April 15th, against the Golden State Warriors. San Antonio is one game back of Oklahoma City for the West’s No. 1 seed in the playoffs, while the Warriors are tied with Houston for the sixth seed. The Spurs have won five of their last ten games, while the Warriors have lost three of their last four. The Spurs have won two of three meetings over the Warriors, but the Warriors won their last meeting at home. NBA oddsmakers have the Warriors as -4 point home favorites over the Spurs with the over/under set at 199.5 points. Be sure to check out the 2013 NBA Point Spreads now.
The Spurs (58-22, 23-17 V) lost to the Lakers 86-91, on the road, on Sunday. Tim Duncan had 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Spurs, who have lost six straight road games. San Antonio is likely to finish second in the West behind Oklahoma City, which holds the tiebreaker. Tony Parker scored just four points on 1-of-10 shooting while playing for just the fourth time in April. Kawhi Leonard managed just eight points in 33 minutes against the Lakers, making only one field goal.
During their six-game road losing streak, they’re averaging 88.0 points while shooting 40.3 percent. They haven’t endured a longer skid as the visitor in a single season since dropping eight in a row from Jan. 7-Feb. 6, 1997. San Antonio has dominated Golden State, winning 17 of the past 18 matchups while averaging 111.4 points. However, the Spurs had a seven-game winning streak at Oracle Arena snapped in the most recent visit Feb. 22, when they fell 107-101 in overtime.
Duncan is averaging 22.6 points while San Antonio has dropped three of five, but Parker has missed two of those games with a sore neck and Manu Ginobili has been sidelined for eight straight due to a strained right hamstring.
The Warriors (45-35, 27-13 H) lost in LA to the Lakers 116-118, on Friday night. They got 47 points from Stephen Curry in a dynamic performance, while Klay Thompson scored 25 points and David Lee added 19 for the Warriors. Curry scored 22 points in the first quarter and 32 in the first half in a barrage of outside shooting. The Warriors played for the 49th time this season without centre Andrew Bogut, who has a bone bruise in his sprained left ankle. Rookie Festus Ezeli took Bogut’s starting spot, getting four points and seven rebounds before fouling out.
Stephen Curry is averaging 28.8 points over the last four games. He’s also closing in on the NBA record for 3-pointers made in a season, sitting eight behind the record of 269 set by Ray Allen in 2005-06. “To be in that conversation like the season he had in ’06, that is special,” said Curry, who has totaled 43 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the perimeter in two games versus San Antonio this season.
