Jazz at Nuggets Game 2 2010 NBA Playoffs: The Denver Nuggets just got better for Game 2 of Monday's NBA Playoffs game with the visiting Utah Jazz primarily because Utah lost one of its best players, Memet Okur, because of a possible torn achillies tendon.
NBA Playoffs oddsmakers at SBGglobal.com list the Nuggets as 7-chalk favorites versus the short handed Jazz with a 212 1/2 total. Jazz backers are getting +260 odds on the SBG Global moneyline while the Nuggets are giving -320.
In Game 1, Nuggets guard star player Carmelo Anthony put the team on his shoulders and carried them to a hard fought 126-113 victory at the Pepsi Center. Anthony scored a playoff career-high 42 points on 18-for 25 shooting. Anthony had five of Denver’s 29 assists. He also sent the Jazz back to the drawing board in search of answers for Game 2 Monday night.
"I told myself, ‘In order for us to succeed in the playoffs, it’s going to come down to me,’ ” Anthony said. “I know I shouldn’t tell myself that, but me being a leader of this team, I have to set the tone out there. Tonight I wanted to do that offensively and defensively."
Melo had plenty of help too, especially from J.R. Smith. After a slow first half with only two points, Smith hit his first three tres and scored 11 straight points for the Nuggets in the first 3:22 of the fourth quarter, pushing a two point lead to eight in that span. Smith and Anthony combined for 30 points in the fourth.
For the game, The Nuggets covered the 5.5-point spread, while the combined score sailed OVER the posted over/under (208).
The Jazz loss of Okur is enough of a knockout punch, killing their hopes. Of course the Jazz will field a team but Okur's loss is critical. Will Utah be able to fill his shoes from its bench? Probably not. The 7-point spread favoring Denver looks pretty good. Take it!
