The Philadelphia 76ers will look to avoid being swept today as they host the Heat in a game four battle at the Wells Fargo Center. This afternoon's playoff tilt is scheduled to get underway at 1:00pm ET on ABC. NBA Point Spreads have Miami listed as a -6 NBA Playoff Picks favorite; the Over/Under is set at 188.5.
Miami rolled into the playoffs having won 12 of its last 14 regular season games, the momentum the Heat built during that stretch run was, obviously, not a good thing for the seventh seeded 76ers.
LeBron James and his cohorts have experienced little resistence from Philadelphia through three games of the best of seven series, disposing of the Sixers by an average of 11.6 points per game. Philadelphia did put up its biggest fight yet at home on Thursday night, but Miami prevailed 100-94 after James and Dwyane Wade both posted double doubles.
James finished the night with 24 points, 15 rebounds and six assists while Wade tallied 32 points (game high), 10 rebounds, and eight assists. Five 76ers reached double figures in scoring, including Elton Brand (21) and Jrue Holiday (20), but the team shot just 43.9 percent from the field and 68.4 percent from the charity stripe in the pivotal loss.
Philadelphia also got worked on the boards for a third straight game with the Heat outrebounding Doug Collins' squad 50 to 34.
A moneyline bet on the Heat today seems almost a certainty to cash, although the return on a -260 wager is not the greatest. If one were so inclined to take that route, risking a greater loss for a less handsome reward, they would have Miami's series dominance to support their decision. The Heat have won 10 straight over their Eastern Conference rival, a streak that originated in February of last year.
During their recent reign over the 76ers, Miami has averaged 101.3 points per game to Philly's 90.1. That 11.2 points per game difference has helped the Heat go 6-4 against the spread in those games. When the point spread was at nine or under, Miami went 6-1 against it.
If history holds true, the Heat will close and cover today as Philadelphia becomes the first team eliminated from the 2010-2011 NBA Playoffs.
