by Scott Burgess on Thursday, April 28th, 2011

The Portland Trail Blazers look to force a Game 7 tonight, Thursday April 28th, but first they have to beat the Dallas Mavericks in Game 6 of the Western Conference quarter-finals. The Mavericks lead the best of seven series 3-2 SU and lead the Trail Blazers 6-4 SU through their last ten meetings. NBA oddsmakers have the Trail Blazers as -4 point home favourites over the Mavericks with the over/under set at 183 points. Dallas (3-2, 0-2 V) is one win away from advancing to the second round after beat Portland 93-82, at home, in Game 5. Dirk Nowitzki finished with 25pts, 8 rebounds, Jason Kidd 14 assists, 7 rebounds, 4pts, Shawn Marion 14pts, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 blocked shots and Terry all had productive games for Dallas. But nobody was bigger than Tyson Chandler, who went from underwhelming in the first four games to overwhelming Monday night. The 7-foot center, who entered the game averaging 4pts and 7.5 rebounds in the series, scored 14pts and grabbed 20 rebounds, including a career-best and franchise playoff-best 13 off the offensive glass. The Mavs outhustled them on the boards and at the free-throw line. Chandler’s heavy lifting allowed Dallas to hold a 49-37 rebound advantage. The aggressive attitude was a big part of why the Mavericks owned the foul line, making 26 of 35 attempts to 14 of 19 for Portland.

Portland (2-3, 2-0 H) won each time the Mavs have visited their building this season, twice in the regular season and twice so far in the playoffs. Portland has won 12 of its last 13 at the Rose Garden. Overall against the Mavericks, the Blazers are 46-18 all-time in Portland, and 8-1 in playoff games. It's likely that all eyes Thursday will be on Brandon Roy, and whether he can stage another comeback — this time not just to win a game, but to save a series. The Blazers last win in the series they were down 67-44 in the third quarter, when Roy led his team on a stunning comeback for an 84-82 Game 4 victory on Saturday. Roy, a three-time All-Star who had been troubled by his knees all season and came on as a reserve, finished with 24 points — 18 in the fourth quarter. "I don't think it's any secret that I've got to play well. And not only play well, I've got to be more aggressive," Roy said. "When I'm more aggressive it puts pressure on Dallas' defense to game plan and figure out how to stop me, and then I think it give other guys easier shots. "My goal tomorrow is to go all-out and be as aggressive as I can."
