The visiting Denver Nuggets look to up the tempo for tonight’s, Tuesday May 1st, Game 2 against the Los Angeles Lakers in the best of seven Western Conference quarter final series. The Lakers won the 2011-12 season series with the Nuggets 3-1 SU. NBA oddsmakers have the Lakers as -5 point home favorites over the Nuggets with the over/under set at 200.5 points. Denver best player during their humiliating loss was Andre Miller, the reserve guard had 12 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in 27 minutes. Karl predicted that Miller, the savvy veteran, would have a good series against the Lakers. Miller, who is 10th all time in NBA assists, this season had 10 or more assists in 17 games for Denver (which went 15-2). Ty Lawson and Arron Afflalo were wondering how two guys who averaged about 19 points each in April could each shoot 3-for-11 on Sunday.

“We had way too many, what I would call, regular-season basketball plays, rather than playoff basketball plays,” Nuggets coach George Karl said Monday. “That’s what I thought the Lakers did extremely well. Their focus didn’t break down very often. They got the volume up at full blast faster than we did. I thought the last 30 minutes of the game were pretty even, but the first 10 to 15, they were at a better level.

The Nuggets thrive in transition. But in half-court sets, they must thrive off pick-and-roll plays and pick-and-pop plays — especially Al Harrington, after hitting only 4-of-14 shots Sunday.

LA thumped the Nuggets, 103-88 at home, on Sunday night. Kobe Bryant scored 23 of his 31 points in the second half on 11-of-24 shooting, while Devin Ebanks filled in admirably for the suspended Metta World Peace, scoring 12 points to go with five boards. Andrew Bynum netted 10 points to go along with 13 rebounds and 10 blocks, becoming the first Laker to register a postseason triple-double since Magic Johnson accomplished the feat. The third-seeded Lakers block 15 shots.

The Lakers don’t expect power forward Jordan Hill to miss any games or practices in the wake of felony assault charges filed against him Monday morning. Hill scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in Game 1. He won a place in the rotation for the playoffs during the last week of the regular season, after he scored 14 points and grabbed 15 rebounds during a double-overtime victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on April 22.

These two teams are meeting in the playoffs for the third time in the past five years (2008, 2009). In fact, the Nuggets and LA have met on five different occasions (1979, 1985, 1987, 2008, 2009) with the Lakers advancing each time, most recently defeating Denver 4-2 in the 2009 Western Conference finals en route to the franchise’s last NBA title.

The Bottom Line: The Lakers are great at home, but on the road they are a different team. Until then, go Lakers! Want to dominate the books this season with some of the best NBA Picks Experts in the business? Then sign up right now and get NBA Picks Free!
