The second round of the NBA playoffs is underway in the powerful Western Conference, and youth will take on experience as the upstart New Orleans Hornets will host the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs in the first game of their conference semifinal at New Orleans Arena. BetOnline.com has the New Orleans Hornets –3 point favorites as an NBA Playoff Prediction against the San Antonio Spurs with the over/under set at 183.5 points.
The Spurs are coming off a five-game win over the Phoenix Suns in the first round, and Tony Parker was on fire throughout the series. Parker led the way with 29.6 points and seven assists as the Suns failed to control the Spurs' point guard. Tim Duncan added 24.8 points and 13.8 rebounds, while Manu Ginobili dropped 18.2 points. All the talk about a “Big Three” came from Boston this season, but the Spurs' trio of Parker, Duncan and Ginobili has been proven to win championships. The Spurs' defense also held the high-flying Phoenix offense to 100.4 points, which was 9.4 points below their regular-season average.
The Hornets dominated the Dallas Mavericks in a five-game series win, and as usual, Chris Paul was in the middle of everything New Orleans ran. The point guard put up 21.1 points, 11.6 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.71 steals, including a marvelous triple-double in the series-clinching victory. David West had 20.6 points and 8.9 rebounds as he went head-to-head with Dirk Nowitzki. The Hornets did not look like they were inexperienced in the playoffs, and much of their poise came from Paul, who owned the Mavericks' Jason Kidd throughout the series
These two split their four meetings this season, but the Hornets blew out the Spurs in their pair of victories. Much of this series will be decided by the play of the point guards, and both seem to be at the top of their game right now. The Spurs have shown that they can persevere in a hostile environment, and their experience has made them -130 favorites to win the series. But the young Hornets will be feeding off the support from their home crowd, as they are -160 favorites in the series opener. Look for the Hornets to continue their solid play with a big win over San Antonio on Saturday. Get your Free NBA Prediction in Now!
