Los Angeles Lakers vs Denver Nuggets Game 3 2012 NBA Point Spreads

The Lakers lead the best of seven series 2-0. NBA oddsmakers have the Nuggets as -4 point home favorites over the Lakers with the over/under set at 204 points. LA’s (2-0) Kobe Bryant poured in 38 points on Tuesday to propel the Lakers to a 104-100 Game 2 victory. It was Bryant’s 83rd 30-plus point playoff performance.  Andrew Bynum followed up his Game 1 triple-double with a playoff career-high 27 points and Pau Gasol contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Ramon Sessions chipped in 14 points to help the Lakers hold on in a game they never trailed.

Coach Brown said he preferred the way Andrew Bynum played in the opener, when he had 10 points and 13 rebounds to go with his 10 blocks, because he made a sizable impact on both ends of the court. It’s something the coach said he has come to expect. After a two-game stretch in which Bynum has averaged 18.5 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks while shooting 17 for 27 (62.9%).

Denver (0-2) will need to push the pace to exploit Los Angeles’ age and negate the Lakers’ overwhelming size advantage. Avoiding playing catch-up would also help the Nuggets, who have never led in the series. Ty Lawson connected on 11-of-17 shots from the floor in Game 2 en route to 25 points, but Denver still lost its eighth consecutive road playoff game. Kenneth Faried scored 14 points and grabbed 10 boards while four other Nuggets scored in double figures.

The Nuggets talked about strategies to guard Kobe Bryant. Denver can’t afford to double-team Bryant too often, not with two of basketball’s best big men to pass to, center Andrew Bynum and forward Pau Gasol, whom Karl called “the best passing big man in the NBA.” As for defending Bryant, Karl said Thursday: “The first half, he made six, seven shots that we’ll probably let him have (tonight). We’ll try to make him put the ball on the floor a little more, try to crowd him. I don’t care who you put on him, he can shoot over them. So you want double at 25 feet and give Gasol the high-low dunk or a wide-open 3? It doesn’t make a lot of sense, when you’re getting beat by tough shots. So you go double on him and give up easier shots?”

History is not on the Nuggets’ side now. The Lakers are a gaudy 42-1 all-time when leading 2-0 in a best-of-seven series. “If you followed us all year long, every time everybody thought the worst was going to happen, it never happened,” Karl said. “I believe in them [his players] and I trust in them. We’re not this consistent, perfect team. We have to do some things to make our motor go, but when it goes, it’s pretty good.”

The Bottom Line: I think the Lakers can sneak out a win, if not, they’ll at least make it close and cover the spread. Want to dominate the books this season with some of the best NBA Picks Experts in the business? Then sign up right now and get NBA Picks Free!
