The Indiana Pacers look to protect home court as they host the Miami Heat tonight, Thursday May 17th, for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference series. The series is knotted at one game apiece. Miami won three of the four from Indiana in the regular season. NBA oddsmakers have the Heat as -2 point road favorites over the Pacers with the over/under set at 180.5 points. Miami’s (5-2, 1-1 V) LeBron James had 28 points and Dwyane Wade scored 24 for the shorthanded Heat, who shot just 34.6 percent and were outscored 28-14 in the third quarter. No other Miami player mustered more than five points, the first time in the franchise’s 24- years of existence that only two players scored more than five points in a game. It was a case of poor shooting for the Heat, who went 1-of-16 from three-point range and also missed half of their 10 free throws in the final quarter. That included a 4-of-8 performance from James in the last 12 minutes.

The Pacers expect to face an aggressive Wade and James tonight. The two Miami stars, who are playing without fellow All-Star Chris Bosh (abdomen), accounted for 52 of their team’s 75 points in Game 2. No other Heat player scored more than five. Wade will likely play with extra motivation because he took exception to the Pacers’ joy at the end of Game 2. The Pacers want to force James and Wade to earn their points because that likely means none of their teammates will be critical factors.

Chris Bosh, who scored 13 points before suffering the injury shortly before halftime of the Heat’s 95-86 victory on Sunday, is out indefinitely after an MRI on Monday confirmed a strained lower abdominal muscle. “This season has to be extended for me to play again,” he said. “So that’s what’s on my mind.” His absence has let doubt creep into the mind of the Heat and buoyed the confidence of the Pacers.

Indiana (5-2, 2-1 H) earned a 78-75 victory in South Florida on Tuesday. David West scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds while George Hill added 15 points, including a big free throw with 14.1 seconds left. “Now the pressure is on us, I think,” Pacers forward Danny Granger said. “Two games on our home court. Home-court advantage is switched in the seven-game series.”

“We’ve got to keep our edge,” Indiana coach Frank Vogel said. “We understand that we feel good about who we are as a basketball team and that we can win this series. But that means nothing. We’ve got to do it in between the lines.”

“Our goal is not to come in here and try to just put up a good fight or whatever,” West said. “We’re trying to win the series. We’re competing to win the series and winning one game is not what we set out to do.”

The Bottom Line: The Pacers can win this one if they bust out fast ans double team James and Wade. Want to dominate the books this season with some of the best NBA Picks Experts in the business? Then sign up right now and get NBA Picks Free!
