NBA Championship 2010 Odds & Predictions: Since no NBA Playoffs action is scheduled for Thursday, it's a good time for NBA betting aficionados to look at futures odds on the 2010 NBA championship and four remaining teams, Celtics, Magic, Lakers and Suns.
Oddsmakers at online super-sportsbook Bodog.com really like the Los Angeles Lakers lining them favorites at 4-to-7 odds. How does this line translate into dollars and cents? If you wager $700 on the Lakers and they win, the payoff to you will be $400.
In the eyes of Bodog oddmakers, the Boston Celtics are installed with second best odds to win the 2010 NBA championship at 9-to-5. If Boston wins, a $500 wager would pay $900.
The Orlando Magic, down two games (0-2) in their best of seven series with the Celtics are lined at 10-to-1 while Phoenix, also 0-2 in their series with LA, are lined at 20-to-1.
The Magic might be down two games, but at least they have been competitive. The same cannot be said of the Suns, also in a two game hole after losing in consecutive blowouts to the Lakers. Each of the Magic’s games with Boston could have gone either way.
At 10-to-1 odds Orlando might be a good bet to win four of the next five games. After all, the Magic went 15-1 since the beginning of April until the wheels came off in Games 1 and 2 of the Eastern Conference finals.
The second-seeded Magic, winners of 59 regular-season games and victors in the first eight games of the postseason, have vowed that these Eastern Conference Finals are far from over. But before they can talk of getting back in the series they must first figure out how to win a game, and do so at Boston’s TD Garden this Saturday night.
The Suns are facing a bigger problem and that’s not just a figure of speech. The Lakers are bigger, longer, thicker and stronger than the Suns. Despite delivering more than 100 points in each of the first two encounters in Los Angeles, the Suns have been unable to cope with the versatility of their bigger opponents.
Predicting the outcome of these conference finals should be easy with two of the teams in a 0-for-2 hole, but it’s not. Fans can expect Orlando to battle back and take one or two games in Boston and make the series competitive.
Phoenix will have a more difficult time holding down the surging Lakers. Phoenix might stretch the series to five games but nothing beyond that.
Suns coach Alvin Gentry said it best – "We are just having a hard time."
