So the Lakers will have to deal with a desperate Phoenix team in its home lair if they want to extend their lead.
The early Sunday morning line at BetUS.com has Phoenix at -1 1/2 for its Game 3, with an OVER/UNDER of 219. Oddsmakers have stayed away from posting moneyline odds. With a two game lead in the series, BetUS oddmakers list LA as overwhelming (-1400) odds favorites to win the series while Phoenix backers are getting +750 odds to pull off a miracle of winning the series.
The Lakers have now taken five of six games from Phoenix this season. And even though favored in each game, LA has still gone 5-1 vs. the BetUS pointspreads in those games, as they've outscored the Suns, on average, 114-104.
And as the first two games of the West Finals have played OVER their totals, the O/Us are 4-2 in Lakers/Phoenix games this season.
Through the first two games of the West Finals LA is shooting a scorching 58% from the floor, while the Suns are hitting at a 49% rate. And the Lakers have outrebounded Phoenix by a 41/34 per-game margin.
Despite Jason Richardson’s 27 points, 10-of-17 shooting from the floor and 3-of-7 shooting from downtown, the visiting Suns dropped a 124-112 decision to the Lakers on Wednesday. After winning six-straight games coming into the Conference Finals, the Suns find themselves down 2-0 to the defending champions.
Steve Nash added 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Amar’e Stoudemire notched 18 points, six rebounds and two blocks for the Suns. However, the duo also combined for 10 turnovers, which contributed to the Suns’ first back-to-back losses since January 25-26.
History doesn’t appear to be on Phoenix’s side, considering Lakers Head Coach Phil Jackson is 35-0 when his teams lead the series 2-0. But we’ll see if history can be altered in Game 3 on Sunday.
