The Los Angeles Lakers will attempt to punch their ticket to the NBA Finals tonight, taking a 3-2 series lead into the Pepsi Center this evening. Los Angeles scored a critical Game 5 win on Wednesday night at the STAPLES Center, beating the Nuggets 103-94. Five Lakers scored in double figures while the Nuggets struggled to find an offensive rhythm. Carmelo Anthony did his part, scoring 31 points, but no other Denver player posted more than 12.

Thankfully for the Nuggets, they will get a chance to even the series on their home court. The Pepsi Center has been a nightmare for opposing squads this year, but it has been especially troublesome to Denver's Playoff competition. The Nuggets are 7-1 within its confines during the post-season and they are beating clubs by an average of 15.5 points per game there in the Playoffs.

The Lakers are the only team to beat Denver at the Pepsi Center this post-season, garnering a 103-97 Game 3 win there. However, Los Angeles last visit to the Rocky Mountains to did go as well as the Nuggets recorded a 120-101 Game 4 victory. 

Denver limited the Lakers to 41.5 percent field goal shooting and Los Angeles went cold from the charity stripe, connecting on just 24 of their 35 free throw attempts. Kobe Bryant had 34 points in the loss, but hit just 10-of-27 from the floor.

The Nuggets, who had 49 free throw attempts in the game, dominated both the offensive and defensive boards. Denver outrebounded the Lakers 58 to 40 and they had 11 more offensive rebounds than L.A. Kenyon Martin, Chris Anderson, and Nene Hilario combined for 42 boards (14 offensive) in the win. 

Denver will need another superior effort on the glass to get the series to a Game 7. They will also need to shoot better than the 39.3 percent that they posted in their Game 3 home loss.
