The Boston Celtics are one victory away from eliminating the Miami Heat tonight, Thursday June 7th, as the Celtics host the Heat for Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals. NBA oddsmakers have the Heat as -2 point road favorites over the Celtics with the over/under set at 179.5 points. Miami (10-6, 3-4 V) has dropped 15 of their last 16 on the famed parquet floor, including seven of eight since James arrived in South Beach. The Heat are on the brink after Tuesday’s 94-90 setback in Miami. LeBron James recorded 30 points and 13 rebounds, while Dwyane Wade added 27 points for the Heat, who lost despite the return of All-Star forward Chris Bosh.

Tonight, Coach Spoelstra, who was heavily criticized for playing Bosh so little in the second half of Game 5, is considering whether to return the big man to the starting lineup. “I think he’ll be able to handle a bigger load of minutes,” Spoelstra remarked. “It’ll be based more on how he feels during the game.”

The real story here is LeBron James. James, averaging 31.8 points and 10.0 rebounds in the series, is 2-9 in playoff games in Boston (1-3 as a member of the Heat) since the Celtics put together their Big 3 in 2007. “I know how much pain this team has given me over the years,” LeBron said. “I think I guess it’s only right that we will be going up there in an elimination game. In order for us to keep our season going, we have to win in their building.”

Miami has averaged 90.7 points and is shooting 43.5 percent in the past three games — compared with 98.5 and 46.9 in the regular season — but of the past 12 quarters, the Heat has scored between 14 and 21 points in eight of them, plus two points in the Game 4 overtime.

Boston (11-7, 8-1 H) was able to capture the swing game on Tuesday night despite Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo combining to hit just 9-of-34 (26 percent) from the field. Kevin Garnett picked up the slack with 26 points, including two clinching free throws with 8.8 seconds left, to go along with 11 rebounds. Pierce wound up finishing with 19 points, Rondo had 13 assists and Allen and Mickael Pietrus each chipped in 13 points to help the Celtics rally from a double-digit deficit early on.
Coach Doc Rivers is trying to stress to his team how important Game 6 is. “We have one home game left, and that’s it in this series,” Rivers said Wednesday. “We have to understand that, and we have to come with that sense of urgency. Our guys understand that.”

The inability to control Rajon Rondo (20.6 points, 11.0 assists in this series) or Kevin Garnett (21.6 points, 10.8 rebounds) is killing the Heat. Even on a night when Rondo shot 3 for 15, he created havoc with 13 assists, seven of which resulted in dunks or layups.

The Bottom Line: We will see the best from the Celtics tonight, they can’t go back to Miami tied at 3-3. Want to dominate the books this season with some of the best NBA Picks Experts in the business? Then sign up right now and get NBA Picks Free!
