The Suns have been right on the brink of an NBA title since Steve Nash arrived in town, but it has found ways to elude them each season. Find out if they can finally get over the hump in this 2007-08 Phoenix Suns predictions and season preview for Point-Spreads.com. The oddsmakers at Bodog have made the Phoenix Suns 4 to 1 odds to win the 2007-08 NBA Championship.
The Phoenix Suns have the athletes to play the fastest paced game the NBA has ever seen and they have proven that it can work. However, it has not yet translated into an NBA title for this franchise, and if it doesn’t this season, Phoenix could be out of luck.
Steve Nash is a two-time NBA MVP and he is the one that makes this system work. He averaged 11.6 assists per game last season and easily could have won his third MVP award, but his good buddy Dirk Nowitzky took home the honors instead. Raja Bell is Phoenix’s Bruce Bowen. He guards the other team’s best player and knocks down threes when he is open. He is one of the best roll players in the NBA. Grant Hill comes over from Orlando and will likely start at the small forward position. He gives Phoenix more depth, veteran leadership, and toughness. The leadership could be crucial in the playoffs. Shawn Marion will be the Suns’ power forward once again. He is the quickest leaper in the NBA. This guy is non-stop energy. Amare Stoudemire is the Suns’ center. He led them in scoring last season. His roll is crucial as it will be up to him to neutralize Tim Duncan if the Suns want to get past the Spurs in the playoffs.
Boris Diaw and Leandro Barbosa come off the bench. These guys would be starters and maybe even All-Stars for most teams around the league. Phoenix has the luxury of bringing these guys in to give itself a lift.
The problem with the Suns’ style of play is that they rely on offense to win games where as the Spurs, for example, rely on defense. Some nights the shots might not be falling and the Suns will often lose those games. Defense is something you can bring to the table every night. Phoenix will have to get better defensively this season if they want to raise an NBA Championship trophy.
Don’t play a lot of overs on the Phoenix Suns just because they score a lot of points. That is a common misconception. The books often set the bar too high, especially when the Suns are playing another high scoring team. This opens the door for under plays for your NBA betting.
