Minnesota Timberwolves 2007 NBA Preview

Minnesota Timberwolves 2007 NBA PreviewJimmy Boyd’s 2007-08 Minnesota Timberwolves predictions and season preview for Point-Spreads.com will tell you if the Wolves can avoid the Northwest Division cellar this year. The oddsmakers at SportsBetting.com have made the Minnesota Timberwolves 100 to 1 odds to win the 2007-08 NBA Championship.

We’ll just cut to the chase; not having Kevin Garnett this season will stop the heartbeat of this franchise. Vice President of Basketball Operations, Kevin McHale, only once put adequate players around Garnett to challenge for a title. Garnett has carried this team for years, single handedly putting them in the playoffs numerous times, but everyone knows a championship cannot be won with one player alone. Kobe Bryant is finding that out now. Now Minnesota will be forced to suffer, likely for some time.

Ricky Davis, the ninth-year pro from Iowa, is Minnesota’s leading returning scorer at 17 ppg. He has often been criticized for not being a team player and for not playing much defense. He was not the answer in Cleveland as the main scoring attraction and he won’t be in Minnesota either.

Al Jefferson comes over from Boston and tries to replace Kevin Garnett – not going to happen. He will give the Wolves an inside presence with the ability to put up double digits in points and rebounds but not to the extent that the Wolves need.

The Wolves are expecting a lot from first round draft pick Corey Brewer as they will likely insert him into the starting lineup in his rookie campaign. The small forward can slash and has a silky smooth stroke from the outside, but he lacks an NBA body. Randy Foye will bring the ball down the court for Minnesota. He averaged 10.1 ppg in just under 23 minutes last season. He is another young talent that the Timberwolves are counting on improvement from. Mark Blount rounds out the starting lineup at the center position. He averaged in double digits in points last season and will be Minnesota’s biggest asset on the boards with Garnett out of town.

My final synopsis is that the Timberwolves are too young. They will have, perhaps, their worse season in franshise history this year. They have some good, young players, but no clear cut star to carry the heavy load that this team is.

Picking against the Timberwolves will not show good value as they will be heavy underdogs a lot this season. But we can expect this team to lose nearly every game against the league's elite. So if you’re a big money man, lay the juice and go against the Timberwolves on the money line to make a nice little chunk of change on your NBA betting this season.
