Seattle Sonics 2007 NBA Preview

by Alexander Banks on Thursday, November 1st, 2007

We all expect this to be a rebuilding year for this new-look Seattle Sonics team after shipping off superstars Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis, but could the Sonics still be ahead of schedule already this season?  Find out in this 2007-08 Seattle Sonics predictions and season preview article.  SportsBetting.com has the Seattle Sonics at 100 to 1 odds to win the 2007-08 NBA Championship.

Seattle absolutely won the NBA lottery by landing Kevin Durant.  What a slap in the face to nearby Portland who passed him up and will get to see him drop numerous 20+ point performances on them this season.  The Sonics will look to build around him and they will give him the ball already in his rookie season to be the man for the Green and Yellow.

Solid point guard Luke Ridnour will be responsible for getting Durant the ball and he should have no problem doing that.  The 6 foot 2 inch guard averaged double digit points and 5.2 assists per game last season.  Kurt Thomas comes over from Phoenix to give the Sonics some front court scoring.  He and Nick Collison give the Sonics a couple physical presences down low.

Perhaps, the biggest asset to this franchise, next to Durant, is head coach P.J. Carlesimo.  If he can install his defensive minded attitude into this team, the Sonics should be able to succeed despite having less talent than most teams across the league.  Delonte West and Earl Watson are tough players who will help spearhead this defensive approach.

Hopefully, Durant can be Seattle’s Lebron.  Having a year of collegiate experience could have Durant a little more polished than James when he came into the league.  Also, having an experienced point guard who is used to distributing to stars should accelerate Durant’s progress as well.  If the most highly touted player since Lebron can deliver this season, things will be looking sunny in the rainy city, but if he struggles, watch Seattle fans grow restless.

Jimmy Boyd is here to help you beat the NBA odds all season long. Seattle is not going to be a team to back consistently.  The Sonics are young and they have lots of players who have never played with each other before.  We will get behind them when they are hot and fade them when they are cold.  Jimmy’s NBA picks make beating your sportsbook easy.  Find out for yourself this season by signing up for one of his premium packages .
