Trouble is brewing in the Windy City. The Chicago Bulls lost 97-91 to the L.A. Clippers Tuesday night, falling to 0-4 both straight up and against the spread to start the 2007-08 NBA season. Chicago could easily be 0-5 once Thursday’s matchup against the visiting Detroit Pistons is over. The Bulls and Pistons game, televised on TNT, tips-off at 8 p.m. ET.
Online wagering leader Sportsbetting.com has the visiting Pistons favorites by a single point with a 182 total. Money line prices are -115 for the Pistons and -105 for the Bulls.
Sports writers have many theories for Chicago’s problems, from the Kobe Bryant trade rumors to contract talks to the apparent void at the power forward position. But the 4-spot is the least of the Bulls’concerns. In Tuesday’s loss, Tyrus Thomas and Joe Smith combined for 23 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, three blocks and just two turnovers in 45 minutes.
Ben Wallace’s health concerns are much more pressing. He’s playing on a sprained left ankle and can barely jump, collecting a total of 17 rebounds in four games. And the Bulls have shot 22-for-77 (28.6 percent) from behind the arc.
That combination won’t get it done against the worst teams in the league, let alone the Pistons, who are 3-0 SU and 2-1 ATS heading into this matchup. Detroit was fifth in the league at press time in both offensive and defensive efficiency.
