Odds to win 2010 NBA Championship: The 2009-2010 NBA season is a quarter way through and the usual suspects have already asserted themselves in both conferences. Not surprisingly, all six division leaders are among the favorites to win the 2010 NBA Championship at Sportsbook.com. The online bookmaker currently has the defending champion Lakers listed as the overall favorite at +200 moneyline odds, followed closely by Eastern Conference squads Boston (+300), Cleveland (+400), and Orlando (+400).
The Lakers presently sit atop the Pacific Division with a 14-3 record; however, their lead is tenuous as the high scoring Suns
are just a half game back in the standings. The team appears to have picked up where it left off a season ago, only, perhaps, better with a healthy Andrew Bynum and the addition of a scrappy Ron Artest. Of course, Kobe Bryant still leads the team, averaging 28.8 points per game, but Bynum has been a stellar sidekick, posting 18.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.
Los Angeles looks to be on its way to home court advantage again, although the Suns and Nuggets, and possibly the Mavericks, may have something to say about that as the season plays out. If the Lakers do indeed finish first out West, they will be a tough out while holding serve at the Staples Center. They were 36-5 at home last year (10-2 during the post-season) and they are off to an 11-2 start there this season.
The Eastern Conference could be much more congested with three teams, and possibly a fourth in the Hawks, all capable of reaching the Finals. The Cavaliers, Celtics, and Magic have all represented the East in the championship round over the last three seasons and all appear as though they could do the same this year. Each squad leads its respective division and they have a combined record of 40-13 to this point in the season.
The major factor for Boston, obviously, is the health of Kevin Garnett as they are a far more formidable team with him in the lineup. The Magic should be fine if Vince Carter can stay healthy and continue to fill the role of the departed Hedo Turkoglu. Cleveland looks to be the same team they were last year, which is both good and bad. Good in the fact that they are great defensively, bad in that they appear to still lack a viable offensive compliment to LeBron James.
