The NY Post is reporting that the FBI is currently investigating a mob connected NBA referee for allegedly betting on basketball games including ones he was officiating during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. NBA Commissioner David Stern is aware of the ongoing investigation but has yet to comment.
The investigation by the FBI began over a year ago and has uncovered that the NBA referee in question was "making calls that affected the point spread to guarantee that he – and the hoods who had their hooks in him – cashed in on large bets."
"I would not want to be in bed with these kind of people," stated a Point-Spreads.com source close to the investigation. "The ref in question was hanging with a tough crowd after developing a large debt."
The FBI has yet to disclose the name of the NBA referee in question and it is unknown at this time which games were affected by the NBA referee's actions or how much money was earned off the scam.
