NBA Picks - Celtics at Cavaliers: The NBA begins its 2009 NBA Picks season Tuesday night with a Eastern Conference blockbuster opener between the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers with tip-off set for 7:35 pm ET at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. This is a much anticipated opener between these two teams, each high on the Bodog.com 2010 NBA title watch list. The Cavaliers are listed on the Bodog NBA board at 10-to-3 odds favorites to win the championship while the Celtics are listed at 4-1.

NBA Picks: Celtics at Cavaliers - October 27, 2009NBA Picks oddsmakers at Bodog.com have installed the Cavaliers as 5-chalk favorites versus the Celtics for tonight's game with a 184 total.

The biggest question the Cavaliers must answer on beginning the season is - how effective will the addition of veteran post man Shaquille O'Neil be? Will Shaq compliment LeBron James, the leagues best player. One thing Shaq has been fortunate in acquiring during his long career is championships - something LeBron is still looking for. Let's see if some chemistry can develop here between these two mega-stars.

Celtics backers should be overjoyed that forward Kevin Garnett will be returning to the fold healthy and hungry for another championship.

The Cavaliers are coming off a year (2008-09) where they went 66-16 SU and 49-33 ATS. The Celtics finished last season with a 62-20 record SU and were 43-39 ATS.

In their last five games the Cavaliers have played host to the Celtics, they have won all five SU and are 5-0 ATS. Cleveland is 8-1 ATS in its last nine games when playing Boston at home or on the road.

Free NBA Picks: It will be raucous in Cleveland tonight. Look for the Cavaliers to enjoy a nice opening night by winning SU and getting by -5 ATS.

Jordan Hill 2009 NBA Draft Odds PDF Print E-mail

2009 NBA Draft Odds: Power forward Jordan Hill, who had a stand-out college career for the Arizona Wildcats, is being viewed as a certain top 10 pick in tonight's NBA Draft. Hill is projected by most draft prognosticators to be selected somewhere between the sixth and tenth picks. Online bookmaker BetUS.com currently has the Atlanta native listed at +1400 on the moneyline to be selected by the Grizzilies with the number two overall pick in their Jordan Hill 2009 NBA Draft Odds.Jordan Hill 2009 NBA Draft Odds

Jordan Hill caused his draft stock to soar this past college basketball season as he posted career highs in scoring (18.3), rebounding (11), blocks (1.7), and minutes played (35.7). The 21 year old helped lead the Wildcats to another NCAA Tournament appearance, where they scored wins as a 12 seed over Utah and Cleveland State before succumbing to Louisville in the Sweet 16.

Most mock drafts have Hill going to the Golden State Warriors with the seventh pick, a place where he would seemingly fit in nicely. Golden State appears to be set at the guard positions with Monta Ellis and Jamal Crawford and they have two of the more versatile forwards in the game in Stephen Jackson and Corey Maggette. The 6'10" Hill would be a welcome addition as a big man who can run the floor, and he would add another quality rebounding presence for the quick shooting Warriors.

Hill is also viewed as a work in progress considering that he is relatively new to the game of basketball. This fact is also intriguing to clubs as his offensive game could use a little polish. But Hill certainly possesses the athleticism and explosiveness to become a force on the offensive end of the floor.

Tonight's 2009 NBA Draft is set to get underway at 7:00pm ET at Madison Square Garden in New York. The event will be broadcast live on ESPN.

James Harden 2009 NBA Draft Odds PDF Print E-mail

2009 NBA Draft Odds: It is all but a certainly that the Los Angeles Clippers will select Oklahoma forward Blake Griffin with the first pick in tonight's draft, but things should get interesting after that. One of the hottest prospects in this year's draft crop is Arizona State guard James Harden. Online bookmaker BetUS.com has him listed at +150 on the moneyline to be selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the third overall pick in their James Harden 2009 NBA Draft Odds.James Harden 2009 NBA Draft Odds

James Harden wowed potential suitors this past college basketball season by posting averages of 20.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assist per game. Harden helped led the Arizona State Sun Devils to a 22-8 record and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, where they garnered a 66-57 first round win over Temple.

In his two seasons at ASU, the 19 year old Harden averaged 19 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. He also shot 50.6 percent from the field and 37.6 percent from beyond the arc.

The Thunder seems like a likely landing spot for Harden as they do not have a true two guard, at least one of any consequence, on their roster. Kevin Durant played mostly at the small forward last season and figures to do so again next year. Harden would greatly bolster the team's offensive attack, which ranked near the bottom of the league at 97 points per game.

Should the Thunder pass on Harden and go with Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio, as they are favored to do at BetUS.com, then the Timberwolves at the five and six spots in the draft would, no doubt, claim the 6'5" Los Angeles native.

Harden displayed an abillty to finish at the rim both out of the set and in transition in his days in Tempe, and he certainly demonstrated his soft shooting touch while there. He is regarded as a smart player with the kind of all-around game that warrants top five consideration. However, some critics have suggested that Harden is not athletic enough to be one of the upper echelon two guards in the NBA.

The 2009 NBA Draft is set to take place at 7:00pm ET tonight at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York.

2009 NBA Draft Odds: The 2009 NBA Draft is scheduled to take place at 7:00pm ET tomorrow night at Madison Square Garden in New York. The two round event will be televised live on ESPN. Online bookmaker Sportsbook.com has released their Draft matchups and Davidson sharp-shooter Stephen Curry (-170) is presently favored to be taken ahead of Syracuse point guard Jonny Flynn (+130) in their 2009 NBA Draft Odds. 2009 NBA Draft Odds

Stephen Curry, the son of former NBA three point specialist Dell Curry, is projected to be a top ten pick in tomorrow's draft. The 6'3" guard, who played at both the shooting and point positions in his three years at Davidson, could be a nice fit with the New York Knicks, who have the eighth pick in tomorrow's draft. Curry would, seemingly, be prepared to step right into a starting role in Mike D'Antoni's fast paced offensive attack.

Curry should have little trouble scoring the ball as he has averaged 25.3 points per game for his college career. Playing the point last year for the Wildcats, the 21 year old junior posted averages of 28.6 points and 5.6 assists per game, both career highs. Davidson missed the NCAA's after losing to the College of Charleston in the Southern Conference tournament.

The knock on Curry, who burst onto the scene in 2008 with a torrid Davidson run to the Regional Finals in the NCAA Tournament, is how his slight frame (181lbs.) will hold up defensively against some of the bigger, stronger guards in the NBA. However, in D'Antoni's system this would not be as big an issue as his quick hands (2.1 steals per game in college) would be more of a factor than his lack of size.

Jonny Flynn, like Curry, lacks size but he is an incredibly talented point man with the kind of attitude and ball skills that should help him succeed at the next level. At 6'1" and 196lbs. Flynn will have his work cut out for him in the NBA, but as he demonstrated in a tough Big East conference, he has the ability to thrive in difficult circumstances.

Last season, the 20 year old Niagra Falls native averaged 17.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 6.7 assist per game. He led his squad to a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCA Tournament before falling to Oklahoma 71-84.

Most projections have Flynn going inside the top ten as well, usually to either the Raptors at nine or the Milwaukee Bucks at 10.

2009 NBA Draft Picks: The 2009 NBA Draft will take place this Thursday night at the Wamu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. The event will be broadcast live on ESPN starting at 7:00pm ET. The Los Angeles Clippers, who have the first pick in the Draft, will take Oklahoma forward Blake Griffin number one overall. Connecticut center Hasheen Thabeet is projected to be the second pick by Draft experts at BetUS.com in their 2009 NBA Draft Picks.2009 NBA Draft Picks

Blake Griffin, the 6'10" power forward from Oklahoma, has been coveted by NBA teams since he stepped on campus in Norman, OK two years ago. Griffin has only added fuel to the fire since then by dominating opponents and displaying the kind of skill that will, no doubt, translate to the next level with relative ease.

In his two seasons with the Sooners, the 20 year old Griffin averaged 18.7 points and 11.8 rebounds while shooting 61 percent from the field. The Edmond native was unstoppable last season, posting 22.7 points per game and 14.4 rebounds per outing. Griffin led his team the Regional Final of the NCAA Tournament, losing to eventual champion North Carolina 60-72.

Griffin should provide a much needed offensive presence down low for the Clippers, and Baron Davis will now get to work with a player who has bigger upside than Elton Brand. The combination of Griffin, Camby, Gordon, and Davis should assure the hapless Clippers more than the 19 wins they mustered last year.

UConn center Hasheem Thabeet does not have the offensive skill set that Blake Griffin does, but he should be a monstrous defensive presence in the league for years to come. The 7'3" Tanzania native led his team to the Final Four this season while averaging 13.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 4.2 blocks per game.

Thabeet, who if selected by the Grizzilies will likely split time with Spaniard Marc Gasol, perhaps showcased his talents best in a February win at conference rival Seton Hall. The 22 year old scored 25 points, grabbed 20 boards (seven offensive), and had nine blocks in the 62-54 victory.

The third most highly touted prospect in the 2009 NBA Draft is Spanish wonderkid Ricky Rubio. Rubio, who helped lead Spain to the Silver Medal in last year's Olympics, has been playing professional basketball since the age of 14. The 18 year old Rubio signed with the Spanish ACB League in 2005, and led the league in both steals and assists last year.

The 6'5" Barcelona native would most likely step in at the point guard position immediately if he is selected by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the third overall pick.
