by Alexander Banks on Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

NBA West Conference Leaders, Mavericks and Jazz Clash Tonight in Salt Lake The Utah Jazz (24-10) looks to claim the season series over Dallas when they take on the Mavericks (27-8) at Energy Solutions Arena tonight in Salt Lake City.  If successful, it would be the first time they would have won the series over the Mavericks since the 1999-2000 season when the Jazz took three out of four. Tip-off for the game is at 9:00 p.m. (EST).

Utah routed Dallas 101-79 in their first meeting back on December 11th for Coach Jerry Sloan’s 1,000th career victory.  Carlos Boozer had a monster night for the Jazz, who never trailed in the game, as he scored thirty-one points and pulled down eleven boards while Deron Williams added eighteen points on seven out of eleven shooting from the field.  Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavericks with twenty-six points.  Jerry Stackhouse missed that game and three others for Dallas with a groin injury.

The Jazz are coming off a 96-84 road win at Denver as Williams had a career high of 28 points with 12 assists to lead the team. Boozer added 24 points including 14 in the fourth quarter.

Dallas fell short of matching the longest winning streak in franchise history of 14 games when they fell to the Los Angeles Lakers 101-98 on Sunday. Dallas was leading the contest going into the final period but gave up 33 points over the final 12 minutes. Tonight the Mavericks look to bounce back when they close out their three-game road trip against the Jazz.
