Phoenix Suns Host Winless Dallas Mavericks

by Thomas Jensen on Thursday, November 9th, 2006

Phoenix, Arizona – The 1-4 Phoenix Suns are hosting a game against the Dallas Mavericks after a loss in San Antonio. The 0-4 Mavericks have a chance at winning this their second stop leg of their road trip. Dallas is also coming from a road loss dealt to them in the Staple Center by the Los Angeles Clippers. Good thing on this stop is they will face a team who’s not up to par this season either.

L.A.’s Cuttino Mobley scored 28 points to beat Dallas 103-85 Wednesday night. The Mavericks that tied a club record last season with 60 wins have opened a season 0-4 for the first time in the franchise's 27-year history. Owner Mark Cuban commented on the lack of cohesive play as a team. Mentioning the ineffectiveness displayed by the Mavericks by not hitting the open shots and running out of gas in the late quarters playing 26 minutes of a 48-minute game.

Sam Cassell had 21 points and nine assists for the Clippers, who have won four straight after losing at Phoenix in their opener. Jason Terry led Dallas with 23 points. Jerry Stackhouse made his first start of the season at small forward in place of Josh Howard. Stackhouse scored 12 points in 37 minutes. Dirk Nowitzki had 19 points and 12 rebounds. He was kept on a short leash thanks to a technical foul he got with 4:05 left in the second quarter for complaining that Mobley fouled him while stripping him of the ball. He slowly lost rhythm through out the second half.

The Phoenix Suns met a tough Spurs team that was led by Tony Parker. Parker scored 29 points, while 6-foot-10 Argentinean Fabricio Oberto, added 22 points on 11-of-11 shooting to lead the Spurs to a 111-106 overtime victory. Steve Nash had 20 points and 11 assists for his fifth double-double of the season. Raja Bell added 20 points for the Suns.

However the Spurs (4-1) scored 10 of the first 12 points in overtime. Tim Duncan added 26 points and 14 rebounds. Oberto also added 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. One rebound came with 35 seconds left on Boris Diaw's miss when the Suns were trying to cut San Antonio's lead to three points. The Suns (1-4) went 2-of-6 from the floor during overtime while. San Antonio hit 5-of-7.

The odds are Suns -4 and we think that’s a suck in move. The Suns still don’t have form and the Mavericks will take advantage and break their losing streak to make it 1-4. The Mavericks themselves tend to run out of steam and blow big leads but betting the over 214 is not suggested. This game will be boring both don’t teams will try to avoid another loss.
