The Detroit Pistons (28-18), winners of three in a row and the NBA Central Division leaders, host the Boston Celtics tonight from the Palace in Auburn Hills with tip-off at 7:30 p.m. EST. The Pistons are double digit favorites at offshore sportsbook Sportbet.com (-10 ½ points, 186 ½ total) over the struggling Celtics, losers of 14 in a row. The Celtics, owners of a 12-34 record, share the lead in fewest victories with the Memphis Grizzlies. The injury bug has hit the Celtics severely limiting the team’s ability to compete this season. Tony Allen is out for the year and Paul Pierce has returned to practice but is not currently in the lineup. Bet on basketball at Sportbet.com and receive a 50% signup bonus. Al Jefferson, who came to the Celtics three years ago straight out of high school in Mississippi is developing into a star along with two other players who skipped college, center Kendrick Perkins and shooting guard Gerald Green. However until they get Pierce and Allen back they will not have the experience to hang with the NBA’s better teams. Playing again at a high level, best evidenced by their wire-to-wire dominance in Sunday’s win at Cleveland, can the Pistons now start flexing their muscles at home against lesser competition? It’s been a yearlong struggle best reflected in their curious home-road disparity – the Pistons are 15-9 on the road, best by far in the East, but just 13-9 at home. It’s the first of a five-game stretch of home games that come every other day up until the All-Star break – a perfect opportunity, in other words, to put some distance between themselves and the field. The Pistons took a 27-24 lead after the first quarter then held the Cavaliers to less than 20 points in each of the remaining three quarters. |
