The San Antonio Spurs get their first look at the Allen Iverson-lead Nuggets tonight when they travel to Denver for the first time this season. Tip-off is at 9 p.m. EST from the Pepsi-Center. 

These teams split four games last season with the Spurs winning the first two and the Nuggets the final pair. Denver hasn’t won three in a row in the series since winning the final two meetings in 1993-94 and the first in the following season. 

The Spurs defeated the Portland 98-84 at home on Tuesday (Jan. 9) and limited them to just 84 points, including 23.1 percent from three-point range, while winning for the seventh straight time against the Trail Blazers . Tim Duncan provided a solid effort, scoring 16 points to go along with nine rebounds, five assists and four blocks … after spending one game on the inactive list with a hip strain, Tony Parker came out strong, scoring 14 points in just 21 minutes of action. 

Behind big games from Allen Iverson, Earl Boykins and Marcus Camby, the Nuggets snapped their five-game losing streak by beating the Milwaukee Bucks 104-92. The Nuggets got off to a good start in the first quarter, outscoring the Bucks 35-29 on a blistering .684 (13-19) shooting from the field. Denver trailed 2-0 to start the game, but never trailed again as they earned their 10th double-digit victory of the season.

When the Nuggets acquired Allen Iverson on 12/19, a major question was how he and Earl Boykins would work together in the backcourt. Well, it didn’t take long to figure out that the Nuggets will be just fine with the 6-foot Iverson and the 5-foot-5 Boykins manning the perimeter. In nine games together, the two have combined to average 49.1 ppg and 12.2 apg. Iverson has posted double-doubles in three games, including 44 points and 10 assists vs. Seattle on 12/28; while Boykins has scored at least 20 points in eight of the nine games and is averaging 23.1 ppg over the stretch. 

The Spurs are favored over the Nuggets by a -5 ½ point chalk at most offshore sports books with the total set at 200 ½. San Antonio has failed to cover the line against the spread in its last 3-of-5 games while the UNDER has cashed in 3-of-5 games. 

The Nuggets have struggled as of late ATS by failing to cash for their backers five in a row prior to Tuesday’s win over Milwaukee. The UNDER has cashed in three of the last five games the Nuggets played.
