Brooklyn’s Zab Judah will showcase his superlative boxing skills tonight on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights against Puerto Rican Jr. Welterweight Edwin Vazquez. Judah, 34-5, 25 KO’s last fought against Puerto Rican pitbull Miguel Cotto in June. The Cotto fight was brutal bout that saw both fighters take lots of punishment but Judah was eventually worn down by the body attack of Miguel and KO’d in the 11th round by referee stoppage. Zab was a +250 boxing betting underdog vs Cotto but he was game all night long.
Edwin Vazquez is a 35 year old C level fighter that has proved to be a capable with his experience and long arms at 5’9” tall but in this bout he is severely outgunned. BetUS.com has Zab Judah a -5000 boxing odds favorite heading into the fight.
Vazquez has a decent left hook and has competed with some good boxers but he has been stopped 3 times in his career. Vazquez, 22-10-2, 8 KO’s, is also the naturally smaller man in this fight having campaigned mainly as a Lightweight. Edwin’s only chance at victory against Judah will be to go for broke and try to land a bomb on Zab Judah’s iffy cap.
Chances are Judah will be looking to make a statement, and against C level fighters Zab Judah usually ices his man quick. Santos however is crafty and could make it past the 5th.
On the undercard hot 23 year old Jr. Welterweight prospect Lamont Peterson, 21-0, 9 KO’s will take on lanky 5’10” Puerto Rican veteran 28 year old Frankie Santos. A minor title belt will be on the line in this 12 round fight that has Lamont Peterson as a -4000 odds favorite at BetUS.com.
Look for the nasty Peterson, 21-0, 9 KO’s to polish off Santos, 15-3-3, 7 KO’s, in less than the 9.5 round over\under line.
