Oscar De La Hoya buys The Ring Magazine

by Alexander Banks on Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Oscar De La Hoya buys The Ring MagazineLegendary Junior Middleweight boxer and entreprenuer Oscar De La Hoya has bought The Ring Magazine from the Kappa Publishing Group. The Ring Magazine has been regarded as the “authority” on boxing for the past 85 years.

"Oscar is the new face of professional boxing," stated Point-Spreads.com Boxing Expert Brad Marchetti.  "I believe that Oscar will put a strong emphasis on the fact that the Ring has the ACTUAL boxing rankings and Champions."

The magazine has unbiased rankings unlike many of the alphabet organizations. Fighters that are listed as the Ring Magazine champion are recognized as undisputed champions by the mass media and fans alike.

When asked if owning the magazine while simultaneously being an active boxer and promoter would be a conflict of interest De La Hoya responded. “These magazines will be held in an editorial trust where they will be operating totally independent of any influence from me or others from the Golden Boy Companies as it relates to editorial direction or content,” promised Oscar.

I think this is a good thing for the sport of boxing and that De La Hoya will run the company with good intentions as I can only see the magazine getting more exposure for boxing with the mega popular Golden Boy calling the shots.

Sportsbook.com has posted boxing betting odds for the Golden Boy Promotions fight between Marco Antonio Barrera vs Manny Pacquiao 2:
