Welsh fighter Joe Calzaghe (45-0) will defend his Ring Light Heavyweight title Saturday night at New York's Madison Square Garden against IBC Light Heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr. (52-4).
Oddsmakers at online sportsbook BetUS.com have installed Calzaghe as a -260 moneyline favorite. The posted round total is currently set at 9 1/2. Jones backers are getting +200 underdog odds. Calzaghe won the Ring Light Heavyweight title from Bernard Hopkins in a split decision April 19 in Las Vegas. Saturday's fight will be his second career fight away from the European continent, the Hopkins bout his first.

“If I had had my way, this fight would have been in Cardiff [UK]. But the bottom line was that HBO wouldn’t do a pay-per-view fight if it wasn’t in America, so I had to come here. Boxing has changed. America is not No 1 any more. Look at what they did at the Olympics, one medal. There are more good fighters in Europe than there are in the US, but not many top Americans come to Europe.” This fight was originally scheduled for Sep. 20 but had to be moved to Nov. 8 because of a hand injury sustained in training. Jones earned his IBC light heavyweight title from Anthony Hanshaw in July 2007 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Miss. Jones won the bout by unanimous decision. Jones has only fought once since that time, a non-title fight against five-time world champion Felix Trinidad also at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
