Pacquiao vs Marquez Fight Odds: It’s no secret that (53-5-1, 39 KO) Juan Manuel Marquez [+550] will be a huge underdog this Saturday night when he takes on reigning pound-for-pound king, (53-3-2, 38 KO) Manny Pacquiao [-900]. The MGM Grand Garden Arena will be the site for the third encounter between these legendary fighters. For Pacquiao, this is his chance to finally put an end to all the speculation surrounding his previous two fighters with Marquez.
Despite the fact that Pacman is 1-0-1 versus his Mexican nemesis, many believe that the Filipino might have lost both of those encounters. The first time they met dates back to May of 2004, when Marquez was the WBA and IBF World Featherweight champion.
After a 12-round war, the fight was declared a draw and neither fighter could believe it. If you ask Manny, he’ll tell you he won the fight, and the same can be said about Marquez.
Pacquiao came out with the guns blazing, and caught Marquez a little flat footed in the first round. Three knockdowns later, Marquez was barely able to escape the first round, and Pacman let a golden opportunity go right through his hands. Get $50 in Free NFL Picks here!
But the champ recovered from his ominous start, going on to win what many consider was the majority of the rounds thereafter. However, in the end, the judges scored it 115-110 for Marquez, 115-110 for Pacquiao, and the last judge saw it, 113-113. It is rumored that one of the judges made a mistake scoring the fight, and if he wouldn’t have, the Filipino would had taken home a split decision.
The second fight took place more than four years later, on March 15th 2008 at the Mandalay Bay. This one was also very close, and Marquez did seem to land the more damaging blows. But a third round knockdown might have been the difference, as judges gave Pacquiao the split decision: 115-112 for Pacquiao, 115-112 for Marquez, and 114-113 for Pacquiao.
