Manny Pacquiao vs Antonio Margarito Boxing Odds & Prediction at online odds maker Bodog.com have "Pac Man" listed as a -450 moneyline favorite.
Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2 – 38 knockouts) has tackled all comers and all weigh-classes in order to earn his "Fighter of the Decade" moniker from the Boxing Writers Association of America. This evening will represent his largest jump yet, though, as he takes on a fighter in Margarito who is used to battling anywhere from 160 to 170lbs.
Pacquiao has never entered the ring at 150lbs. before, so, naturally, some will question whether the increase in weight will effect his stamina as well as his trademark speed.
The Filipino, who has been steadily climbing the weight laddar in recent years in order to find competitive fights, has had no trouble dealing with endurance, agility or explosiveness issues due to his previous weight increases. A long list of who's-who fighters, including David Diaz, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, and Miguel Cotto, can attest to Pacquiao being un-phased by any division advancement.
Ghana native Joshua Clottey is the latest to feel the wrath of "Pac Man" as he fell victim to the 31 year old in March of this year at Cowboys Stadium (unanimous decision). Pacquiao retained his WBO Welterweight title with the win.
Antonio Margarito (38-6-0 – 27 knockouts) may face the opposite problem of Pacquiao as he had to cut weight in order to reach this evening's 150lbs. catch weight agreement. And while Pacquiao has fought six fights dating back to March of 2008, Margarito has faced just four opponents since April of 2008.
Margarito, who was suspended after his loss to Shane Mosley (January, 2009) for having a plaster like substance on his hand wraps, made a return to boxing in May when he beat Roberto Garcia for the WBC Light-Middleweight crown.
While Margarito is a great fighter, all signs point to another Pacquiao win tonight. The "Tijuana Tornado" is a banger but, while elusive, he lacks the speed of Pacquiao. "Pac Man" should be able to get in and out with relative ease against Margarito, which means his heavy left hand will have an abundance of opportunities to punish the Torrance, California native. Pacquiao's great strengths will neutralize Margarito's height and reach advantage (5' 11" to 5' 6", 73" to 67") as this fight fails to go the distance.
