Bernard Hopkins handles Winky Wright to retain Light-Heavyweight TitleThe 42 year old future Hall of Famer Bernard “ The Executioner” Hopkins outboxed top-5 pound for pound Middleweight Winky Wright over 12 rounds to successfully defend his Light-Heavyweight crown. Scores read: 117-111 twice and 116-111 all for Hopkins.  BetUS.com had Winky Wright a 7-5 boxing odds favorite heading into the fight.

“Hopkins is the bigger man physically. Hopkins will be able to use his body attack, lateral movement and size advantage to outpoint Wright over 12 rounds,” stated Point-Spreads.com Boxing Expert Brad Marchetti.

Marchetti put in a strong 3 unit recommendation on Hopkins which proved to be a sound investment. Winky tried to use his Jab as his primary weapon throughout but was unable to gain Hopkins respect. Bernard consistently landed quick straight bullet-like right hands that Wright had no answer for.

B-Hop had better agility, using the ring to his advantage against the plodding Wright. Neither fighter was downed or hurt in the contest in what proved to be a high quality matchup of two of the world’s finest defensive boxers. When things did get rough on the inside Hopkins consistently got the better of Wright. Hopkins is now looking to face England’s undefeated Italian Joe Calzaghe, 43-0, 32 KO’s at Madison Square Garden for his next bout.
