Bernard Hopkins a slight favorite to beat Winky Wright in Light-Heavyweight BoutWinky Wright is finally getting his wish. After years of pursuing a fight with Bernard Hopkins , he gets one and for a belt no less. The highly anticipated match-up between light heavy weight champion Hopkins (47-4-1, 32 KO’s) and Winky Wright (51-3-1, 25 KO’s) will take place on July 21, 2007 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. HBO Pay-Per-View will televise the fight.

Oddsmakers at online sportsbook Betus.com favor Hopkins (+100) to win over Wright by a decision or technical decision but only by a slight margin. Wright backers are getting +110 juice to win by decision.

If the fight ends in a Knockout, a TKO or disqualification, on either fighter, the money line juice for that result is +800 . If the fight ends in a draw or technical draw the line will pay +900.

Hopkins, current owner of Ring Magazine’s Light Heavyweight belt is trying to make a comeback of sorts. After losing his middle weight title and two bouts to Jermain Taylor , Hopkins could crawl back to notoriety with a win over the highly respected Wright.

Wright battled Taylor, then the middleweight champ, to a draw, seen as a controversial result by many including Winky. There is no doubt each of these fighters would prefer to get another fight with Taylor, especially Winky, But that isn’t possible at the moment. Taylor is currently working out a deal to defend his title against number-one middleweight contender Kelly Pavlic in December.

Wright is seen as the fighter with the most to lose if he falls to Hopkins. About the only thing he has to gain, is notching his belt with a win over a big name. Sending the 42 year old fighter into retirement isn’t anything that will bolster Wrights career. A loss to Hopkins would make it more difficult for him to get a re-match with current middleweight champ Jermain Taylor.

“I love this fight, I’m ready for this fight,” said Hopkins. “I’m in tremendous shape, and I’ll show my fans once again how I dominate the ring.”

Wright stated, “I respect Bernard Hopkins for what he’s accomplished in his career but I’m looking forward to showing him I am the best in this business.”
