44 year old Evander Holyfield will have an opporunity to be a 5-time heavyweight title belt holder on October 13th when he challenges Sultan Ibragimov for the WBO Heavyweight championship. The venue and TV broadcast will be determined at a later date.
Holyfield last defeated Italian tough guy Lou Savarese June 30th where he was a -650 boxing odds favorite at WagerWeb.com. Ibragimov is at his peak having just defeated Shannon Briggs June 2nd to capture the title as a -170 boxing bet at SportBet.com
I think that Evander has a real good shot in this fight to bring the title back to the USA. Sultan is a southpaw with decent skills but is a paper champion who was in the right place at the right time. Holyfield looked awfully sharp in his last two bouts, showing no signs of being a declining fighter.
Look for the books to probably favor the younger Sultan Ibragimov with the public perception being that Evander Holyfield is an old washed up pugilist.
