These two fighters are schedueled for a 12 round bout in the ring but Point-Spreads.com broke the news that the pair had a violent preliminary scuffle already after the press conference Tuesday when their teams collided, so expect some toe-to-toe action in the actual fight.
Fres Oquendo is listed as a top heavy -350 favorite by Sportsbook.com. Oquendo, 27-4, 15 KO’s, is at his best when he utilizes his long 80" reach to throw straight shots down the pipe with a less than entertaining style. He is perhaps the least talented Heavyweight to have ever competed at a World-Class level. Castillo, 29-5-2,16 KO’s, is a southpaw puncher\boxer who has a solid chin, good power and plenty of experience. Cuban immigrant Elieser,36, looks to be in fantastic shape for this fight coming in around 215-220 Lbs. probably realizing that this match is his last shot at big time dough in the future if he defeats Oquendo, 34.
Puerto Rican Fast Fres owns a long jab and sound defense, but the big O can be rocked when hit square on the jaw. If there is one thing Castillo can do, he can punch. If the 6'2" Oquendo doesn’t adapt to Elieser’s awkward Southpaw stance in the opening rounds he might get drilled by some shots he doesn’t see and go down. Fres also has a knack for doing just enough to lose close fights.
Wild man Elieser has a tendency to “not show up” and is very unpredictable with his uneven performances. If the 6'1" Castillo does decide to “show up” like I expect him too with the beef at full blast against Oquendo, he must be considered a live underdog. At this point in their careers though I think Fres is a little fresher and the better boxer. I expect Fres Oquendo to win by clear cut decision.
