Ivan Calderon vs Hugo Cazares Fight PreviewIn what is a true treat for boxing fans some of the two best little guys 108 LB. Hugo Cazares will face off against Puerto Rican  Ivan Calderon. Cazares will be defending his World Jr. Flyweight title against the defensive specialist Calderon in Puerto Rico. The odds on this fight  at Bodog.com are even at -115 for both fighters.

Calderon is a smooth boxer that is extremely hard to tag with a clean punch. Cazares is a boxer\puncher that will be the naturally bigger man in this fight. In the fight contract however there is a stipulation that Cazares must not weigh over 118 lbs. At fight time. This contractual agreement should benefit Calderon as Cazares has been know to be 126+ lbs. For his bouts by fight time.

Calderon isn’t a featherfisted puncher but he will be shooting his .25 caliber pistol against a .40 cal. in Cazares. Cazares is a switch hitter that is aggressive with his awesome combination punching and huge heart. If Calderon is unable to gain Hugo’s respect it could be a short night for the boricua slickster. Cazares has only an average chin and a suspect defense so Ivan would be best served to let his hands go early to gain that respect.

Calderon is always the smaller man in his fights but he can box rings around most anybody. Ivan has all the defensive moves in the book and has the intelligence to adapt to styles and get decision victories. In last fight Calderon looked to have slowed down a half step as he won a razor close decision to a fringe contender. Calderon has been searching for a big money fight for some time now and he finally landed one but is it coming a little too late?

You have to applaud Calderon for taking on such a tough fight. Cazares though not a special fighter will have too many physical advantages here for the great boxing skills that Ivan has. In a classic Boxer vs Puncher fight the boxer usually wins but in this case the puncher knows how to box enough to make full use of his advantages. Although the fight is in Calderon’s native Puerto Rico Cazares has Golden Boy Promotions in his corner to ensure a level playing field if the fight goes to a decision. Cazares should have enough to pull out a win.
